Sephora gift scam for € 2: what to do if you gave your card numbers?

Understanding this banking charge in 3 key points

1/4 Sephora gift ad for € 2: the risks and costs behind this offer. Our opinion !

Several Internet users have written to us to warn us of a scam that is currently running on the internet: the Sephora gift scam for € 2.

I clicked on a Facebook ad
I was offered this gift because I completed a survey
it was on an Instagram ad!
I received an email asking me to answer a questionnaire to maybe win a prize

...

The testimonials are varied and yet the scam mechanics always remain the same: an offer for a Sephora gift for € 2 disguised as a gift, lot (end of stock, damaged products…), price or even reward against a completed form. The condition: pay the shipping costs. Only, by paying the shipping costs, you enter your credit card numbers ...

If you are asked to enter your bank details as part of a win, it is a scam! The goal of scammers is to collect your card numbers to subscribe to any online service and extract a few tens of dollars from you each month thereafter.

WARNINGS : do not trust the big known brands attached to all these scams. They have nothing to do with it. These are the scammers who use their image to gain your trust!

2/4 How to terminate direct debits following the Sephora gift offer for € 2?

Stopping withdrawals following the Sephora gift scam for € 2 is free. To do this, you must complete the termination procedures with the company that charges you. Normally you can do this directly online.

Can't do it alone? Do you want to be accompanied? There is online assistance (paid service) to help you terminate. Our recommendation: I stop the costs!

This company helps you find the company that is withdrawing you and put an end to the monthly withdrawals that follow the scam for good. They can even help you get a refund WHEN possible (more on this later on this page).

3/4 Getting a refund following this scam: is it possible?

How to get reimbursed following a Sephora gift scam for € 2? This is the question we are asked the most, and unfortunately it is not that easy.

Indeed, when the bank card was entered to pay the shipping costs (the famous 1,95 euros or 2 euros for postage), you validated the general conditions which indicated that:

  1. The gift offered was as part of a competition (in other words, it is very VERY unlikely that you will ever receive it)
  2. Participation in the competition resulted in a subscription to an online service
  3. Therefore, the company has no legal obligation to reimburse you. Two alternatives are then available:

      - See directly with your banker if the opening of a fraud file is possible (the file will have to be motivated and it will be necessary to succeed in proving that it was a scam)
      - Negotiate directly with the company that takes you

4/4 Blocking your card to stop direct debits: what does the bank think?

What the law says ? : in March 2018, the court of cassation refused an individual to blame his bank following an online scam. The CDC accepted the culpable negligence of a customer who had transmitted his data to a fraudulent site. This court decision explains why a banker may refuse to block your card and consider a reimbursement of sums withdrawn if you are the originator of the purchase.

If you are still in possession of your bank card, it is very unlikely that it is a card hack as explained above: blocking the card would therefore mean not honoring the contract which binds you to the bank. company that charges you following the Sephora gift offer for € 2. We therefore do not recommend blocking your credit card but carrying out the online procedures to cancel the current subscription..

On the other hand, if it is a card fraud (= theft of your card or theft of your card details) you can declare it stolen / lost to your banker + file a complaint at a police station.

Pssst!

sephora €2 for a perfume, I too received a questionnaire to fill out, and I won a 100 ml perfume for €2!! I was so happy, because I don't have much financial means, having a small pension. so I gave my card number, the €2 was withdrawn, so far so good, but 10 days later, the sum of €70 was also withdrawn (for me this sum corresponds to my diet of the month). Then, they contacted me again telling me that the package had been damaged, and that Chronopost was asking me for 0.99 cts, a paltry sum for me to give them my address, which I had already done, otherwise the package would go back to " Zipporah” , and that would take a lot of time. but in the meantime, when the sum of €70 was withdrawn from me, I said that I had lost my card, like that everything stopped. but unfortunately I know that I will never see the color of my perfume “j adore de dior”…………… I called Séphora Vitrolles in the mouths of the Rhône to tell them, but they completely ignored it, and told me that it was my fault, nothing more, no gift, even everything at a very small price to console me, nothing…………. so I removed myself from the online site, at least I won't be mistaken anymore. in short bad experience……………. 🙁
